avocado dj

so parker and i were driving down avocado,  a really cute residential street where i would most definitely want to live if we were here indefinitely.  a few of the houses were having typical yard sales, with furniture and clothes strewn about the lawns.  one difference, which makes these yard sales truly LA: the dj.  mmmhmm.  someone had enlisted a dj for the yard sale.

celeb sightings.

parker and i have lived here for almost two months, and we have not seen any celebrities.  then parker’s sister, elizabeth, comes to visit for the weekend, and we have seen two in one day!  granted, i would consider them both b-list, but still.  the first is cloris leachman from spanglish, mary tyler moore show, dancing with the stars, etc.  the second is patrick renna from the sandlot, son-in-law, might ducks, etc.

also, i found out that leonardo dicaprio goes to my cleaners.  i think our tide is turning.

la-la land

so parker keeps saying that he’s going to write a post that is v. multi-media.  think: podcasts and online polls.  as you can see, he hasn’t lived up to that yet. so i’m back, but maybe without a video this time.

we went to anaheim a few weekends ago to watch the rangers BEAT the angels and, afterwards, we took a tour of anaheim to see where my mom grew up!  the video is awesome, but too long, so if you want to see it, let me know and i will email it to you.  this is directed mainly to you, mom.  🙂

nothing terribly new to say, except that we have started venturing out on the west side a bit more.  it’s a lot cleaner in that part of town.  less crazies.  less graffitti.  more mercedes.  we had forgotten that la has a clean side.  🙂  that said, after seeing all the $1500+ purses carried by age 15- girls who drove range rovers, it was nice to return home to los feliz.  i love this neighborhood.

some favorites include the totally legit italian restaurant down the street (palermo) that is run by tony, who gives you free pizza slices and coke while you wait.  skylight books is just a few doors down and always has great window displays for my morning walk to the subway.  and then there is the french cafe, figaro, where the beautiful european people always perch lightly while nibbling on toast and speaking foreign languages.  one time i saw a non-beautiful person eating there, and i knew it must be his first (and only) time on the patio.  and, to make it truly californian, we have a neighborhood pinkberry.  don’t know what that is?  look it up.  heaven.

i’ll take some photos this weekend of my daily walk so you guys can see.

i started work again this week!  technically, i was back to work last week, but i was in training, and not at the client site.  i had a local office orientation this morning, where i learned where i could find my mail, how to order business cards, and (most importantly) where the flavia coffee machines are located.  i also found out that the LA office reimburses employees for all forms of transportation taken to work that do not involve driving in your car alone.  i.e. i will be fully reimbursed for my subway rides!  also, if i decided to walk to work, bike to work, or carpool to work, i would be paid for that.  crazy!

i went to vegas this past weekend for stephanie’s bachelorette party – so fun, but sorry, no photos allowed!  i told parker when i came home that it was weird pulling in to our street because it felt like i was coming home.  relative to las vegas, rodney drive is much more familiar and, even though we’ve only been here two weeks, it’s my new homebase.  also, i met pete rose in vegas.  if you don’t know who he is, look him up.  one of the stranger occurrences of the weekend…

wierd

parker started classes today and likes them!  i’ll let him fill you in on the details, but it was so exciting to come home and each have new stories to tell each other.

i’ll leave you with a video from our first dodgers game.  they were playing the brewers, and the game started and ended with a home run – a good sign for our time in california, don’t you think??  please excuse parker’s chewing…i caught him off guard.  also, just to further my “i love public transportation” bit, i’d like to tell everyone that we took the subway to union station, where we caught a FREE shuttle to the game!  no $15 parking for us!
